# Cycle 02 — Transition Record

Date: 2026-10-12. Evidence cutoff: `0635c4e3188899642943aa51a4bc9f85fc5d2780`. Internal transition review under D-0021. This decision selects a preparation direction only; it opens no Cycle 03, creates no Test or package commitment, assigns no resources and authorizes no research run.

## Evidence carried forward

Cycle 02 accepted RP006's single independently replayed finite run, the actual source-bound checkpoint, a forward/backward graph review, synthesis and foundation reviews, and the dated change/open records. RP006 classifies eight whole-field masks for two exact inquiry families on six already disclosed RP004 constructions with three entities and equal state payloads. Its results reproduce classifications known from the engineering preflight; they are neither fresh confirmation nor evidence of performance on unseen constructions. The graph review establishes typed traceability, not transitive scientific support. Five Result denominators and outcomes remain distinct; no Question is resolved.

Q-0, Q-2, Q-3 and Q-4 remain ACTIVE; Q-1 and Q-5 remain OPEN. PC01–PC03 remain FROZEN and PC04–PC06 remain DRAFT. The Cycle 01 timing deviation, incomplete RP002A attempt and DAM/DAM X primary-source limitations remain preserved. Cycle 02 remains OPEN at 7/9 before this transition decision.

## Alternatives and selection

| Candidate | Evidence basis and readiness | Decision |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Challenge query-relative lineage masks on a new finite construction corpus | Directly addresses RP006's principal boundary: all six cases were known, equal-state and three-entity fixtures. The registered query families and S/P/K fields provide a controlled starting point. | Select preparation as the next research direction, conditional on a separate Cycle 03 entry review. |
| Test whether Q-4 reduces to Q-3 | Requires an explicit mapping from realized-history distinctions to inquiry consequences and a discriminating counterexample or proof. The current package vocabulary does not supply that mapping. | Defer; do not claim reduction or choose it as the immediate package. |
| Predictive robustness across generators or budgets | RP002A remains a fixed-algorithm, fixed-generator benchmark with conditional uncertainty limits. | Defer; no revised-margin or generator study is authorized. |
| Revision, relational dependence or foundation comparison | Q-1/Q-5 have no executed package; parked foundation candidates have not been compared by a shared discriminating task. | Keep open; no broad foundation or ontology is selected. |
| Primary DAM/DAM X reconstruction | The secondary-report pilot does not supply original definitions, versions, operators or primary evidence. | Retain the source gate; do not transfer or inherit an architecture. |

## Selected preparation direction

Prepare a query-relative representation challenge using newly authored lineage constructions that are disjoint from the six RP004/RP006 fixtures. The preparatory target is to vary entity count beyond three and include both repeated and distinct state payloads, while retaining the exact registered FULL and TOPOLOGY_STATE query definitions and answer types. Assess the same eight uniform whole-field S/P/K masks, with their existing meanings and exact projection/conflict criterion, unless a reviewed scope proposal explains why a change is necessary.

The challenge asks whether masks sufficient on the old six-case corpus remain sufficient on this separately specified finite corpus, and which aligned query conflicts distinguish newly insufficient masks. It does not test a probability sample, natural population, arbitrary graph, open-world decoder or universal sufficiency theorem. A conflict is evidence against sufficiency for any declared domain containing that pair; a conflict-free finite corpus licenses only its own finite classification. Passing classifications on a new designed corpus still require disclosure of construction-generation choices and do not establish novelty.

Before entry review, specify an admissible construction grammar and exact case-generation plan, state-label controls, entity range, truth semantics, representation side information and stopping rules. Independently reconstruct truth from construction logs; do not import RP004 expected answers or encode case labels, event order or truth caches into projections. Preserve known masks and conflict controls as disclosed controls, separate from new cases. Decide whether the existing two inquiry families remain adequate; any added query changes scope and needs its own justification.

## Entry gates and decision boundary

A separate Cycle 03 entry review must assess prior-art collision, the chosen domain and contribution limits; define exact queries and representations; register a protocol with complete outputs, negative/conflict handling and independent replay; verify implementation and resource feasibility; bind source, inputs and hashes to a commit; and accept an actual pre-execution checkpoint before any run. No work here satisfies those gates. There is no package ID, Test, resource ceiling, source freeze or execution authorization yet.

D-0021 resolves only Cycle 02's `transition` obligation. Cycle 02 remains OPEN at 8/9; the close bundle and canonical knowledge snapshot remain unfinished. The selected direction becomes eligible for separate entry assessment after Cycle 02 closes. A later entry review may refine, defer or decline it on evidence. Reopen this transition if a material defect in accepted evidence or a source-backed finding changes the rationale; preserve this dated decision and all original records.
